Tourist Thomas Tollemache, 33, of Grantham, Lincs, went missing on Thursday.
The official newspaper Iran reported that a group known as the Hezbollah, or Party of God, had harassed tourists who were in Isfahan to view the solar eclipse. It said about 30 hezbollahis had gathered and chanted slogans condemning the style of dress of the female tourists.

A non-profit, volunteer-run organization called “Not Just Tourists Toronto” will send you on your way with a suitcase of medicines and medical supplies destined for a doctor in the area you plan to visit. The projects start-up was assisted by donations from the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW), the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA), and the United Steelworkers (USW). In its first year of operation, project volunteers collected, packed and sent more than 1,000 kilograms of medicines and medical supplies abroad with tourists. In 2005, the United Steelworkers donated space for the group and the amount of donations sent rose to 2,161 kilos. Bill Howes, one of the projects founders, now offers an e-mail course designed to help people in other Canadian cities and abroad to develop Not Just Tourist projects in their own communities. > SPAIN — The Belearic Islands — Mallorca, Ibiza, Minorca and Formentera — are a Mediterranean Mecca for the rave-age tourist crowd. But with the tourist trade now bringing 9 million visitors a year to these sun-washed islands, Spains Constitutional Tribunal is mulling the idea of imposing a tourist tax on visitors to raise funds to help the local roads and beaches recover from the onslaught.

THOMAS BUFFEL last night revealed his torment at failing to land a move to Cologne. And the Rangers midfielder, who held talks with the German club on Monday, urged them to make a renewed bid for him in the summer. Belgium international Buffel has yet to start a senior game since recovering from knee surgery last year. The pounds 2.3m buy from Feyenoord in 2005 has been restricted to three substitute appearances, and a regular diet of reserve-team football.
According to Art Cologne director Gerard A. Goodrow, the U.S.-born Cologne resident who was hired three years ago to revamp the event [see Front Page, Dec. 04], the move is approved of by key international dealers and long-time participants in the fair, as well as by the Cologne art community and the local government, which has pledged greater support from museums and other municipal institutions. In 2007 the fair will be held Apr. 18-22 at the K61nmesse, displacing Cologne Fine Art, with its emphasis on antiques and old masters, and the museum design and services fair, Exponatec Cologne, both of which will occur Oct. 31-Nov. 4, 2007.
Franco of Cologne Franco of Cologne (active ca. 1250-1260), or Franco of Paris, was the outstanding music theorist of his century. Francos fame derives from his treatise Ars cantus mensurabilis (The Art of Measurable Music), written about 1260. This treatise is preserved in seven manuscripts dating from the 13th to the 15th century and written in France, England, Sweden, and Italy. Numerous quotations from it and references to it appear in the literature of several countries, and its great influence on composition between 1250 and 1320 can be detected in many works. None of Francos own compositions can be identified. Some motets are briefly quoted or cited in treatises; only one motet, in a German manuscript of the 13th century, has been tentatively ascribed to him.Francos treatise presents a new concept of musical notation, on which several other theorists were working at the time, about 1240-1270, but Franco gives the clearest and most logical exposition, and thus he had the widest and longest-lasting influence among all the authors of his period. He was the first to teach distinct note symbols for several clearly related note values, namely, the so-called longa, brevis, and semibrevis, the last of which developed into the modern whole note. Only with the help of this notation did it become possible to write musical lines of much rhythmic variety.

Jakarta - Indonesias military opened an investigation yesterday into the killing of 10 soldiers and five civilians by an army officer who ran amok at Timika airport in Irian Jaya, a military official said. Reuter
Dental surgeries, prisons and airports have one thing in common: people want to leave them as fast as possible. Jails and air terminals share a second characteristic: nobody wants one in their backyard. But this weekend two million Britons are flocking to underplanned and overcrowded airports in the first stage of their annual trek to a place in the sun. When the worlds first integrated airport was created in 1936, the journey from the centre of London to the centre of Paris took less time than the 21st-century jet-age journey via Gatwick or Heathrow, or on Eurostar. The key to speedy, seamless travel was a revolutionary new airport terminal just north of the village of Crawley. The Beehive, as the terminal at Gatwick racecourse soon became known, was a circular building with direct underground access from a specially built station astride the London-to- Brighton main line. Travellers could catch the 12.30pm from London Victoria, be airborne an hour later, arrive at Le Bourget airport in Paris just after 3.30pm local time and reach the Arc de Triomphe comfortably within three hours of leaving London. The stylish, spacious Art Deco design of the Beehive, and innovations such as telescopic covered walkways to the aircraft, made it a model for the great airport buildings of the future. Luton airport need not apply for inclusion in that particular list, because even with a pounds 100m facelift its carpet-warehouse appearance remains the antithesis of grace and the epitome of brutish utilitarianism. Consequently, the Bedfordshire airport is also a pretty grim place in which to while away a six-hour delay, with only the chance of a rant in front of the Airline docu-soap cameras - filming the everyday story of no-frills folk - to break the boredom. During a wrangle over funding the “improvements”, an easyJet insider told me that the airport operator was “building the Taj Mahal at Luton”. If only.

CameraFrom the simplest amateur camera to the most complex, professional piece of equipment, all cameras have five common parts. The lens is made of glass or plastic (or groups of glass elements) and focuses light passing through it on the film to reproduce an image. The diaphragm is an opening or aperture that controls the amount of light entering the camera from the lens and so limits the films exposure to light. The diaphragm ranges in complexity from a fixed lens, opening in a simple camera, to apertures that can be adjusted manually or automatically. The three remaining parts common to all cameras are incorporated in the camera body (also called a chassis or housing). The shutter also limits the films exposure to light by controlling the length of time the film is exposed. Shutter speed can be adjusted in many cameras to suit light conditions and the photographic subject matter; moving objects can be frozen on film with fast shutter speeds. The camera body encloses and protects the operating parts of the camera, including a light meter, the film transport system, built-in flash, the reflex viewing system, and electronic and mechanical components. The body must be lightproof, durable, and resistant to environmental changes. The viewfinder is a specialized lens the photographer uses to preview the photograph either through the lens, if the camera is a reflex-type, or in a separate view for simpler cameras.
All the major brands, from Nikon to Canon and Pentax to Sony, offer point-and-shoot digital cameras. Even Hewlett-Packard has jumped on the digital camera bandwagon. According to Justin Porterfield, manager of the ZCMI Center Inkleys, the cost ranges from $100 to $1,000. One in the $500-price range will get you near single lens reflex quality, he said. According to Allred, most digital cameras have a small LCD monitor on the back that is ideal for composing and reviewing images. It also lets you magnify the images to check for accurate focus and small details. Most digital cameras use compact flash type I memory cards that allow easy downloading to a computer or printer through a USB port on the camera. This allows easy transmission of photographic data to a PC or Mac. Most digital cameras can record movies in AVI format with a duration of up to 30 seconds. The low-quality movies are really for e-mailing and not for television viewing.

H-60 SEAHAWK BRIEFING: The Navy is executing a Helicopter Master Plan and its Helicopter Concept of Operations, through which it will reduce the different type/model/series of helicopters currently operating to two new H-60 variants: the MH-60R and the MH-60S. These forward-looking plans will also involve restructuring the Navys helicopter wings and squadrons and will encompass the additional missions of Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasures (OAMCM), as well as some missions formerly assigned to the S-3 Viking. BRIEFING: The MH-60R Seahawk is the Navys next-generation submarine hunter and surface attack helicopter designed to replace the fleets legacy SH-60B and SH-60F aircraft. The MH60R mission areas encompass undersea warfare, surface warfare, area surveillance and combat identification. The modular design of the MH-60R will provide Battle Group Commanders with greater surveillance capabilities, flexibility and more options to address multiple mission requirements with a single aircraft platform.
Prior to briefing the FY03 helicopter mishap statistics, during the 2003 USAF World-wide Rotary-Wing Conference, in Sep 03, a senior officer asked if FY03s statistics were better than FY02. Yes, the raw numbers of Class A mishaps in FY03 were less than in FY02, four versus nine. However, with the exception of FY02, the four mishaps in FY03 were still the most since FY87. Additionally, the FY02 mishaps resulted in no fatalities, but we were not so fortunate this past year when six of our friends perished in their H-60 while on a civil humanitarian mission. With this in mind, Ill let you be the judge as to whether FY03 was a better year than FY02. Mishaps are grouped either as Operational-related, Logistics/Maintenance-related or Miscellaneous. During FY02 all nine Class A mishaps were Operational-related. However, of the four FY03 mishaps, two were Operational-related and the other two were Logistics/Maintenance-related. The first Operational-related Class A mishap occurred during the terminal operations phase of flight and involved an MH-53 on a night vision goggle (NVG), formation sortie. The mishap crew encountered brown-out conditions on landing. While attempting to land, the mishap pilot overcorrected for aircraft right drift in a hover, and the left main gear struck the ground and the aircraft rolled left striking the ground with the rotor blades.

Many of the old rules and limitations no longer apply to this new form of marketing, which seeks to talk with, rather than at, the reader. At last count, the Internet links some 46,318 computer networks at sites in 91 countries worldwide. More than half (27,614) the networks are in the United States; not surprisingly, some 20% of these are in California. According to the Internet Domain Survey, conducted in January 1995 by Net Wizards, some 4,852,000 host computers were linked to the Internet. The greatest percentage of these computers were being used in business (27%) and education (23%). The Internet Society estimates an average of 10 users per host. Total users on the net are approaching 50 million, with another million or so getting connected monthly.
A review of the marketing literature in both the traditional (offline) and new era (online) environments was undertaken to compare and contrast marketings role in both types of organisation. Insights derived from this review formed the basis for a series of in-depth interviews with leading marketing professionals in Ireland. The paper draws conclusions regarding the overall effect of the Internet on marketing. In particular it notes that, while marketing has evolved into an all-encompassing role in the organisation, the marketer remains the focal actor. The paper looks to a future with two distinct kinds of marketer and highlights the importance of retaining the traditional commitments of marketing practice. The Internet is a significant global medium for communications, content and commerce. It is a powerful tool for building relationships with all of a companys communication targets. It is cheap, immediate and repeatable. With appropriate technology it can be personalised and is measurable. Building one-to-one relationships with customers online provides marketers with the ability to cut through the clutter that is characteristic of traditional marketing activities such as TV/radio and newspaper advertising, PR and outdoor, ambient media.

Background Ask your students the following questions, Is a kite a toy? What is it made of? What do they look like? and How do they fly? Invariably, there will be a wide range of answers, just as there are multiple shapes and uses for kites! Use the information below to stimulate further discussion.
Membership includes a subscription to the bimonthly Kiting. Kiters are a restless bunch. Always something new.or old. Here is some of whats keeping kiteniks looking skyward.
KiteA kite is an unpowered, heavier-than-air flying device held to the earth by a line. The kite flies because wind resistance causes the air pressure under the kite to be greater than the air pressure above the kite, making the kite rise. The word kite is derived from the name of a type of bird belonging to the hawk family which is know for its graceful, soaring flight.A kite consists of three basic parts: the body, the line, and the bridle that attaches the line to the body. To enable the user to control the movement of the kite, the bridle must be attached to the body of the kite in at least two places.

Just as some animals will offer in courtship a morsel of food, the bowerbird and others make gifts of feathers and flowers and all manner of colorful trifles. There can be tittle doubt that the first tokens of human affection were of a simitar nature and were worn as treasured souvenirs. With the recognition of the intrinsic qualities of shelfs and stones, the evolution of jewely had begun. In the Middle Ages patronage was largely in the hands of the church, and a good proportion of medieval jewelry is of a devotional nature. Not until the second half of the fifteenth century was there an emphasis on the aphrodisian themes of antiquity. The refinement of Italian Renaissance jewelry was a result of the broadly based apprenticeship of artists, which required a mastery of drawing, engraving, chasing, casting, enameling, and niello work. Thus Donatello and Ghiberti became sculptors, Ghirlandaio and Andrea del Sarto became painters, and Pollaiuolo and Verrocchio worked in several mediums, returning to goldsmith work and jewelry at will. The fashion for decorative emblems and badges was taken up with enthusiasm in the courts of Europe during the Renaissance. Both devotional and amorous allusions are common in these decorative devices, which closely echo contemporary jewel work. One of the most charming designs for an emblem shows Cupid rashly pursuing the sweetness of the honeycomb only to be stung by the bees who have made it (Pl. XIII), a poignant allegory of the pleasure and pain of love. The Netherlandish hat badge in Plate IX is an emblem depicting a woman choosing between two suitors surrounded by a motto that can be translated “love is something but money is everything.”

A RENOWNED historian has criticised Irish tourism chiefs for cashing in on the legend of mythical warrior Cuchulainn. Richard Warner, archaeologist with the Ulster Museum, has said that tourists are being cheated into believing the story of Cuchulainns great battles across Ireland are true. He says tourists are even being directed to a stone in Knockbridge near Dundalk where Cuchulainn was supposed to have died facing his enemies.

“Open Press, a 15 Year Retrospective” is the largest show ever at the Gallery of Contemporary Art — at least by square footage. “Ive had more pieces in a show, but lots of them were tchotchkes,” says curator Gerry Riggs. “Lots of these are huge.” The exhibit showcases Denvers Open Press, the printing studio that opened in December 1988.

A house in Hampstead that has hidden its north London origins behind a new Japanese personality, has just come on the market. Two adjoining houses in Fitzjohns Avenue were replanned and redesigned with specially selected materials. A stream runs along the full length of the properties (which are reached by means of a slatted bridge) and a sunken Japanese garden is filled with pebbles, ferns and bamboo. One of the houses only is for sale at an asking price of pounds 435,000 through Goldschmidt Howland (0171-435 4404). The main bedroom has a low-level custom-made Japanese platform bed and sliding shoji cupboards made from yellow rice paper. Housebuilders have just had their busiest month for two years and the prospects look good, according to the latest report for the House Builders Federation. New homes have increased their market share to almost 13 per cent from the 10 per cent at which they had been stuck since 1988. John Stewart, an independent housing economist and author of the report, says they are managing to fill a gap in the market because of sensitive prices and attractive marketing. “When I did some research with the Halifax we found a lack of confidence among intending homebuyers: they were not sure they would be able to sell their present homes. In buying a new home the hassle-free factor is very important,” he said. This bears out evidence from builders such as Barratt of a new breed of buyer at the top end of the market who, frustrated by the lack of good property available, is turning to developers for the first time. The success of Barratts award-winning development, Lakeside Grange, in Weybridge, Surrey, looks like being matched by its latest enterprise on the River Thames at Chiswick. At the recent opening of Royal Thames Crescent, all but three of the 19 five-bedroom houses and 13 two-bedroom apartments, with prices ranging up to pounds 600,000, have been sold.
PROPERTY OF THE WEEK WHATS OUTSIDE? An outstanding formal garden extending to 1.75 acres. Landscaped with a glazed gazebo, ponds, a stream, waterfall, deck and barbecue area. Views northwestwards take in Loch Lomond, Ben Lomond and the Arrochar hills.

Colorado Springs patrol officers are getting more firepower: AR- 15 rifles, in addition to their handguns and shotguns. The rifles, worth an estimated $140,000, were free under a military program that sheds surplus supplies. The 140 guns have been converted to semiautomatic for civilian use. The Police Department paid $5,000 in shipping. “We got them because its a combination of giving officers more firepower and being able to obtain them for low cost,” spokesman Lt. Rafael Cintron said.
Unless your business is fashion, you may not have noticed the current trend for people who are not in the armed forces to wear military-style clothing, especially fabrics in camouflage patterns. “One of the side effects of the war in Iraq is that people want real military issue items,” says Rodney Lape, owner of Felony Sales, a fouryear-old on-line business which two months ago opened a 1,250-squarefoot retail store in downtown Chambersburg that employs two people full-time and one part-time. Although military-surplus stores are not unusual, Lape says that he wants his to “break the stereotype many people have that theyre expensive. I put signs in the back of my truck advertising items and prices, like Cortex pants for $24.99 to $32.99 or field coats [heavy winter coats] for $4.99 to $28.99. I can offer these prices because I did my research before we opened up.”

Introduction I apologize if parts of this article are polemical, but I passionately believe that the United States is missing an enormous opportunity by underutilizing English language training to project soft power and reap a bonanza of good will. The Importance of the SATP and the Role of English Language Training in its Success
TRAINING OF specialist language teachers must improve and increase if the Government is to hit its target for every primary school pupil to learn a foreign language, education inspectors say. Ofsted, the schools watchdog, found that trainee French teachers recruited in a ministerial drive to encourage children aged 7 to 11 to learn a foreign language were not highly skilled in the language. Some had only a GCSE in the subject and some could not pronounce common words properly or use basic grammar, a report on primary modern foreign languages concluded. The report said a rapid expansion in the number of primary language specialists being trained was needed if the target of providing language lessons for all primary pupils by 2012 was to be met.

THE TORTUOUS process of buying a home will be over in days rather than months under new rules to be unveiled by the Government this week, in the biggest shake-up of conveyancing this century. Under new legislation, partly aimed at beating “gazumping”, buying property will become more expensive for sellers and cheaper for buyers. Estate agents will not be allowed to market properties unless they have checked that the seller has complied with the new rules.

By Barbara Hollingsworth FORT RILEY — War veterans of all types were honored on this military base Wednesday — soldiers clad in camouflage, schoolchildren bouncing down slides, mothers pushing strollers.
In situations where a single parent lives with someone outside of marriage, that person may be referred to as a co parent. Co-parent is also the name given to the partner in a homosexual relationship who shares the household and parenting responsibilities with a childs legal adoptive or biological parent.
The home which was owned by the family prior to a divorce or separation is referred to as the family home in many state laws. In court settlements of divorce and child custody issues, the sale of the family home may be prohibited as long as the minor children are still living there with the custodial parent. The sale of the home may be permitted (or required to pay the noncustodial parent his or her share of its value) if the custodial parent moves or remarries, or when the children leave home to establish their own residences.
The term extended family traditionally meant the biological relatives of a nuclear family; i.e., the parents, sisters, and brothers of both members of a married couple. It was sometimes used to refer to the people living in the household beyond the parents and children. As family relationships and configurations have become more complex due to divorce and remarriage, extended family has come to refer to all the biological, adoptive, step-, and half-relatives.
Government agencies and other statistics-gathering organizations use the term head of household to refer to the person who contributes more than half of the necessary support of the family members (other than the spouse); in common usage, the head of household is the person who provides primary financial support for the family.

Local dealers of recreational vehicles are enjoying double-digit sales increases from 2003. Consumers evidently are not daunted by high fuel prices, but are leery of boarding airlines, preferring to stay closer to home and the areas abundant natural beauty. The National RV Dealers Association reports that RV sales are up 30 percent in Utah and about 10 percent nationally. Kent Richards, president of employee-owned Motor Sportsland, reported a 15 percent increase. Motor Sportsland, 4001 S. State St. is 47 years old and employs 50.
The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) expects 2002 to be a good year for the industry, and some local dealers and renters agree.”Probably more people will stay locally and go camping,” says William Eddy, owner of Bridenbecker Sales Company in Marcy. “People are staying local instead of flying away.”A $12-billion industry, recreation vehicles (RVs) combine transportation and temporary living quarters for travel, recreation, and camping. The optimistic outlook for 2002 comes from a few positive indicators.

Self Hypnosis
Hypnosis, a medium or modality through which you may become more alert to your own thoughts and feelings, can be appropriate for a number of health conditions, especially ones with emotional or psychological components. While the success rate varies, many health care professionals recommend considering hypnosis for the following: Asthma: Studies suggest that hypnosis may be one effective treatment for asthma, especially when there are emotional and psychological factors involved. Childbirth: Hypnosis can help ease the stress and pain of childbirth. The ASCH estimates that for some women, hypnosis can work as the sole analgesic for childbirth. It not only eliminates the risk posed by drugs, but it may reduce labor time by two to four hours. (It can be used in conjunction with natural childbirth approaches.)

Theres a lovely number by Loudon Wainwright III called The Swimming Song that evokes the delights of bathing with both sharp wit and faux-naïf innocence. Kate and Anna McGarrigle covered it on their eponymous 1975 debut album — one of the all-time great records in my view, mixing folky exuberance and wrenching heartache in a manner that never seems to go stale — and in recent weeks I too have been singing The Swimming Song. All this will sound wildly unlikely to anyone who knows me but I swear it is true.
The pool was such a hit that from the day it was opened the town has been buoyed up on a wave of civic pride. Not since the alcoholic dwarf and his convicted paedophile father were bludgeoned to death, mutilated and set on fire by a group of unemployed teenagers have the local townspeople been as collectively exhilarated. Phrases like community spirit and our childrens future are still peppering the letters page of the local paper. Property prices have risen slightly. An ecumenical church service of thanksgiving is being planned. And people of all ages are learning how wonderful it is to be able to swim. Naturally enough, in a rural area such as this, there are people who have had little or no previous experience of either indoor swimming pools or unisex changing rooms. On the very first day, a 57-year-old farm labourer was cautioned by police for allegedly exposing himself in a cubicle. And an unclaimed pair of wellingtons and a decomposing ferret were discovered in a locker after a persistent smell was traced to its source. In the pool itself a 25-year-old supermarket manager sustained a nasty head injury after taking a running dive into the shallow end. When the pool was divided into lanes to cater for the serious swimmers, problems also occurred when new swimmers presumed an entitlement to one lane each on a first-come-first-served basis. I myself was reprimanded and then lightly assaulted by an elderly lady who believed that, by swimming in a lane that was already occupied by her, I had taken a serious liberty. But theres nothing that a few extra signs in the changing room and at the poolside wont sort out.

INTRODUCTION Dean Monroe Freedman famously presents this problem in terms of the “perjury trilemma.”4 Dean Freedman notes that lawyers face three obligations in performance. The first two stem from the important, almost sacred, attorneyclient relationship. First, there is the duty to investigate a clients case. As Dean Freedman argues, “in order to give clients the effective assistance of counsel to which they are entitled, lawyers are required to seek out all relevant facts.”5 Second, there is the obligation of zealous client advocacy.6 These are potentially at odds with the third duty, the obligation of lawyers to the court. Lawyers are officers of the court and hold certain responsibilities as such.7 They have specific requirements imposed upon them in such a capacity that cannot be forsaken.8 disclosure of potential client perjury threatens the relationship between an individual accused of a crime and their one and only representative in the criminal justice system. “[T]o convert the defendants only champion into yet another member of the states legions seems an unnecessary and offensive step.”9 Dean Freedman argues that only two of these three obligations can be met at any given time.10 So which of the three should go? In our adversarial system, the relationship between a criminal defense attorney and her client is special. The first and second obligations are essential for zealous advocacy. 11 The third, however, is essential for lawyers as participants in the judicial system as a whole.12 This creates a complicated and difficult situation for a criminal defendant attorney.
Put the prosecution on the defensive! Defending Federal Criminal Cases: Attacking the Governments Proof equips defense attorneys with the legal arguments and tactics they can and should use to challenge the governments evidence at every stage of a criminal case. Beginning with the assessment of whether to cooperate with the government, it provides advice on the substance and timing of defense motions, objections and appeals, as well as open questions and splits among the circuits. Coverage includes: bases for motions to dismiss indictments; obtaining and drafting a Bill of Particulars; Fourth and Fifth Amendment grounds for suppressing evidence; Sixth Amendment rights, including the defendants right to a speedy trial, confrontation of witnesses, and adequate representation; discovery issues, including the prosecutions obligations under Brady; proven methods for cross-examining government witnesses; capitalizing on perjury by government witnesses; objections based on substantive and procedural due process; and more. Both scholarly and keenly focused on the needs of practitioners, this new book examines a wide range of motions to file and how you can assert them effectively. Defending Federal Criminal Cases: Attacking the Governments Proof will greatly increase your chances of winning at trial or creating a record for a successful appeal.

At first look, Eichhorn Jewelry store in downtown Decatur looks like hundreds of other jewelry stores in hundreds of other communities across the country with brightlylit show windows on either side of the front entrance to entice customers. On closer examination, however, its not youre typical jewelry store, it is a very special place. Patrons first impression of the 35 yearold store is “WOW!” One-hundred yearold vertical display cases with huge windows that slide up on the north wall are expertly lit to highlight eclectic groupings of jewelry. Unlike most stores, the main showcases, the ones John Eichhorn started his business with in 1965, are situated in the center of the showroom rather than along the sides and are also antiques. The floor cases are from 1929 when Keller Jewelry was located in the Eichhorn building. The diamond sorting table in a back room is a 100-year-old wooden library table that was left behind by the previous owner of the building who was also a jeweler. From the showroom one can peer down a short hall at the end of the store to the large steel door of the vault where the company places its valuable inventory every evening. The vault used to be part of the First National Bank in Adams County, which was the only one that didnt shut down in the crash of 1929.
As art jewelry comes into its own in America, galleries are clasping onto the trend and finding success with the art/jewelry mix. Throughout the world, body ornamentation is an ancient and time-honored art form. Yet in the United States, jewelry as art has only recently come into its own. The distinction between mass-produced jewelry and art jewelry is not just in the quantity but the design, said jewelry artist Gretchen Kubacky of Los Angeles. Ive seen some stunningly high-quality designs in a department store that wouldnt be considered fine art, and Ive seen $5,000 diamond earrings that have no design quality to them. Art is in the eye of the beholder.
Located in the heart of downtown Decatur in a original 1929 stained glass and marble storefront is a shop which stands out from all the rest: Eichhorn Jewelry. A full-service jewelry store, Eichhorns specializes in customer satisfaction. Not only does it offer quality products, it also gives customers quality time, educating them about their purchases. Customers can make evening appointments if they cannot visit the store during business hours. In addition to the areas finest collection of diamonds, gemstones, gold jewelry and watches, Eichhorns offers an extensive collection of unusual colored stone rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets.

Its never too early to start preparing for a Ryder Cup, and at The Gleneagles Hotel that means spending money to make it. Named after the Hall of Fame golfer and course designer James Braid, Braid House is connected to the main hotel and revamped leisure club by an all-glass atrium. This addition brings Scotlands only Five Red Star hotel to 275 rooms, but the development wont stop here. Expansion is in the pipeline for the next 12 years, and when the Ryder Cup arrives in 2014 it will be on the 90th anniversary of the hotel. The beauty of Gleneagles is that modernization hasnt changed its old-world charm. The game may have outgrown the Kings and Queens courses that Braid sculpted in 1918, but the Jack Nicklaus-designed PGA Centenary Course, opened in 1993, will have matured nicely when the American and European teams convene for the 40th playing of the matches.
Scottish Highland Hotels met the forecasts it made at the time of last Novembers flotation, reporting pre-tax profits for the year to October of pounds 2.13m, a 50 per cent increase on the previous year. The companys shares, which were placed at 125p, closed 2.5p higher yesterday at 152.5p. Scottish Highlands bumper profits followed a rise in the Glasgow-based companys occupancy rate from 73.4 to 75.5 per cent during the year and a jump in the room rate charged from pounds 47.78 to pounds 49.83. Pro forma earnings per share rose 24 per cent to 10.3p and a dividend of 0.5p was announced, although the company said it would have paid 3p had the shares been listed for a full year. The successful flotation of Scottish Highland followed hot on the heels of the withdrawal of the planned flotation of Principal Hotels after a glut of hotel floats in 1996.

Introduction I apologize if parts of this article are polemical, but I passionately believe that the United States is missing an enormous opportunity by underutilizing English language training to project soft power and reap a bonanza of good will. The Importance of the SATP and the Role of English Language Training in its Success
Starting today, Family Bridges Inc., an Oakland nonprofit, will offer interpretation, translation and language-training services around the Bay Area. Family Bridges is offering in-person interpreters and document translation, and will provide language training for staff at businesses, community-based organizations and government agencies. In a few months, the agency will also offer interpreters over the phone, said Karen Hoy, manager of the program.
Language Training and Skills The need for foreign language skills. Foreign language skills play a significant role in work for the State Department or its international information programs. These are also vital to HUMINT and SIGINT (human and signals intelligence respectively) work ranging from undercover operations to analysis of raw data captured by eavesdropping. Likewise, military organizationsparticularly elite groups such as Delta Force or the Navy SEALsoften look for personnel with a good working knowledge of a language or languages. In many cases, particularly military or intelligence work, knowledge of obscure languages is likely to be in demand. A diplomat stationed in a West African country, for instance, may speak French to most contacts in the capital city, but intelligence or military operations are likely to take personnel deep into the hinterlands or the underbelly of urban society, where only local languages or dialects are spoken. For example, during the U.S. military effort in Afghanistan in 2001 and thereafter, proficiency in Pashto, Dari, Tajik, and Farsi, the dominant languages in that country, was greatly in demand.

ATT Wireless and Sprint both reported widespread service outages thanks to a combination of power failures to back-up systems and a huge spike in phone usage. Verizon Wireless, however, reported that its network is fully operational, although customers in the New York City and other impacted areas are asked to be patient if their calls do not go through on the first attempt due to very heavy calling.

AbstractKey words: Reservation gaming, land tenure, wealth acquisition, tribal entrepreneurial activity, entrepreneurial adaptationThe Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 (IGRA) was inspired by a desire to increase tribal employment and educational opportunities, thus reducing the chronic poverty of reservations while maintaining a degree of tribal self-governance. Research indicates some short-term benefits. Reservations with casino gaming have increased tribal employment, reduced tribal welfare rolls, increased childrens educational levels (Vinje, 1996; Blackwell, 2001), and in a few cases, such as the Foxwoods Resort and Casino of the Mashantucket Pequot tribe in Connecticut, have made tribal members wealthy (Eisler, 2001). The long-term economic benefits of Indian casinos, however, are still hotly debated within both the tribal structure and the community of academic researchers (e.g., Harvey, 1996; Mezey, 1996).

The latest bizarre episode in the life of George Galloway took place yesterday, when a rubber “stress ball” flung from an office window scored a direct hit on the Respect MP as he campaigned in central London. Mr Galloway, 53, who is standing for a seat in the London Assembly, was on the upper deck of his open-topped “battle bus” when the missile caught him on the temple, leaving him bruised. The ball was believed to have been thrown from a building in Theobalds Road, Holborn. A man was arrested and was being held in custody last night.

Cosmetic surgeons should question patients about their body image to screen out those with a mental disorder before agreeing to operate, doctors say. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), in which people become obsessed about perceived defects in their appearance, affects an estimated 250,000 people in Britain, 0.5 per cent of the adult population. Many sufferers turn to surgery instead of psychiatry for treatment. Obsessive compulsive disorder is ranked as one of the 10 most disabling illnesses by the World Health Organisation in terms of lost income and quality of life, yet can be effectively treated with brief therapy or antidepressant drugs.
British plastic surgeons are becoming increasingly worried about a growing Botox “party” culture in which injections are dispensed by unqualified, unsupervised people. With Botox injections now available across the UK, and so-called “Botox parties” continuing to grow in popularity, experts have warned that there could be serious repercussions if the commercialisation of the procedure is allowed to grow unchecked. In the US examples are already surfacing in the press of a “dangerous black market” growing up around the toxin. Anxiety over the trend is growing this side of the Atlantic, too. Dr Patrick Bowler, the chairman of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors who has been working in the field for 15 years, is particularly concerned by the fad for “Botox parties”.
A COSMETIC surgeon who left a patient looking like “the Michelin Man” after transferring fat from one part of her body to another admitted yesterday that his treatment “fell short of what was required”. He denies serious professional misconduct in his treatment of the three patients in 1993 and 1994 at the Sheffield and Manchester branches of the Transform Medical Group - Britains biggest chain of private cosmetic clinics. Dr Norton, 46, told the GMCs professional conduct committee in London: “I think at the time I always treated patients as individuals and I tried to act in their best interests and do my best for them. But in hindsight, I think it is fair to say that the treatment given fell short of what was required.”

Its not every day you see the pick-up variety of limousines. But according to Brad Hollar, president of Accente Limousines, theres a need for the 20-passenger vehicle with a bed in the back. We live in Oklahoma and half the people here have pick-up trucks, Hollar said of the $125 to $150 an hour ride. A company in California custom-made the $80,000 vehicle that Hollar claims is the only one of its kind in the Oklahoma City area. Weve only had it for about 60 days. And its leased out at least every Friday and Saturday night and often during the week.
Limousine has diverse meanings, from an inhabitant of the region around Limoges, once called Limousin, and which in the 18th century was looked at askance as home to “an old barbarous French, formerly brought into this country out of France”. The OED overlooks the limousine which was a cloak worn by the driver of a cart whose passenger section was shielded from the elements - hence the vehicle itself and all those gaudy, dark- windowed successors which could house nine cows.
