Do you remember where we were 10 years ago? Clipping and chipping in long white coats and still called chiropodists or shiropodists by most. Doing lengthy, complicated neurovascular assessments or nifty scalpel work to impress our medical colleagues and using adhesive semi-compressed felt pads around foot ulcers and trying to wean ourselves from splashing on Friars Balsam, hydrogen peroxide or inadine ointment on every sweaty foot or open wound! Those were the days! Over the last 10 years, the podiatrist has evolved into a key member of the diabetes multidisciplinary team. No single podiatrist or other member of the healthcare team in the UK can deliver effective care for any people with diabetes in isolation from their multidisciplinary team. The medical and nursing champions of such teams have been and remain our greatest allies. There are now a number of centres of excellence across the UK where dedicated and established multidisciplinary clinics exist. The emergence of multidisciplinary foot teams was evident ten years ago–Kings College Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary were putting on regular foot conferences and The Diabetic Foot Journal was starting up as the enthusiastic new kid on the block. The dissemination of ideas and inspiration from the established pioneers mentioned above was resulting in the emergence of more NHS podiatrists and podiatry posts being linked to diabetes. The team in Salford published their experience of setting up an integrated approach, directly linking their hospital team to specialist clinicians based in that strange and scary place–the community setting. Diabetes-specialist podiatrist posts were being advertised every month in our professional journals.

It all started innocently enough five years ago when a local church requested and received government funding for the purchase of 1,000 copies of the booklet. The publisher (the Channing L. Bete Co. of South Deerfield, Mass.) complied with an edition whose cover bore the proud insignia of the D.C. Health Departments Administration for HIV/AIDS. The title then wound up on a list of brochures from which the city routinely orders, still bearing its original title and touting its decidedly pro-Christian message. The city was still handing out the brochure, which cites the Bible thirty times, as recently as last February, when it came to the attention of The Washington Post (Feb. 28, 2001). A spokesperson for the agency vowed that the Health Department would cease and desist.
Some educators are being politically correct to the point of having no common sense. Why would you remove a cross from a church? I am a Christian and if I were to attend a service/function at a synagogue, I would expect Torah Scrolls to be there, some men to wear yarmulkes, songs to be sung in Hebrew and to be surrounded by Judaic symbolism. It isnt about me! To put it simply, a church is a church.
- Church column - A Childrens Sabbath will be celebrated Oct. 22, at North Topeka Baptist Church, 123 N.W. Gordon. The service will focus on children, youths and the response the community of faith makes to their needs. It is celebrated annually by congregations all over the United States.

The protocol for teaching students from junior high school to graduate school often involves desks arrayed in columns and rows. Sitting at these desks are students who, just last night, read the next chapter of the textbook and who now listen to a teachers lecture and take notes. This traditional approach is probably as effective as anything else for the memorization of large quantities of facts. Moreover, it is arguably much easier to tell students that water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit than it is to set up a stove and a thermometer and observe what happens when the temperature of the water on the stove reaches that temperature. Critics of the traditional instruction method complain that the facts that students memorize in this fashion usually do not remain in their memories for long. If students are lucky, the facts will stay in their memories until the examination is over. If not, they will be remembered as poor students. They also argue that the accomplishment of memorizing facts does not necessarily demonstrate any ability to do anything with those facts. The knowledge of facts may be substantially separate from what the implications of the facts look like. It is one thing to tell a medical student what a gangrenous liver looks like; it is quite another to direct the medical student to dissect an actual gangrenous liver and observe its appearance. Furthermore, traditional instruction trains students to be independent actors in the learning process. The notions of working together and working cooperatively have been denounced as methods of cheating. Accordingly, students are not trained to work with others and that can prove to be problematic when they enter an employment setting where cooperation is necessary for success.
Volunteer Mentors Empower The Youth Activities Task Force consists of government employees and other interested adults who serve as mentor-counselors to young people aged 14 to 21. Since it was organized in 1982 as an ad-hoc community group concerned about meeting the needs of young people in Southwest Washington, the Task Force has placed as estimated 450 to 500 teens in summer positions. In a 10-week orientation/training period designed to nurture in the teens a sense of achievement and self-esteem, mentors help the youth-who are primarily from disadvantaged, single-parent or low-income families-prepare resumes, master the job interview process, and develop marketable skills. Barbara Hurlbutt, who has participated in the program since it was launched, notes that the Task Force gives the teen interns an entree into the employment world and a “leg up” into permanent white collar or skilled jobs. She notes: “One of the primary advantages of our program is that it teaches youths what is expected of them in the job world so they wont experience culture shock. They learn that there are consequences to their behavior and actions, and they come to see the link between the Task Force experience and their paychecks. They learn how to seize initiative, budget money and be responsible. The Task Force offers guidance and information to help the kids develop good work habits and discipline, and it regularly monitors their employment progress.”
The Seventh Annual I Have A Dream National Youth Assembly recently attracted 1,400 youth from across the country to study the teachings of civil rights martyr Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. Motivational speakers, community leaders and celebrities challenged the youthful participants to become drum majors for peace and justice. Actor Charles Dutton, in a special address, encouraged participants to set high standards and charged them not to let their past dictate their future.

Plastic surgery emergencies.
The demand for more education and real people to share their experiences with plastic surgery has grown incredibly all over the world, explained Dr. Mayer, co-director with Richard Fleming, M.D. of the Beverly Hills Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. We are excited to participate in a show like Cosmetic Surgery Live, which takes the epicenter of beauty (LA) to the United Kingdom. Dr. Mayer will perform a new FDA-approved procedure called the ENDOTINE Cheek Lift which is ideal for patients ages 35-50 who are not looking for a radical makeover, but a more understated rejuvenation that brings them back 7-10 years. With its five points of contact and absorbable features, the new ENDOTINE device gives patients natural, long-lasting results. It also enhances cheek volume - key to obtaining a more youthful appearance. During a cheeklift procedure using ENDOTINE, a half-inch incision is made inside a crows foot alongside the lower eye. Once the underlying muscle and tissue has been elevated to lift the cheek area, the new ENDOTINE Mid Face is placed to capture and elevate the cheek, securing it into the bone and holding it in position until the soft tissue re-adheres to the cheek bone entirely. The ENDOTINE gradually absorbs completely, at which time the tissue is securely attached to the cheekbone lifting the mid-face.

A tough sell Are we about to find out what happens when they give a war and no one comes? Recent polls say almost 60 percent of Americans disapprove of President Bushs handling of the war in Iraq. Just over half say the U.S. invasion of Iraq was a mistake — based on faulty intelligence and misleading reports about Saddam Husseins weapons of mass destruction.

In this difficult time of retention and recruitment of the best personnel in the service of our country, Tech. Sgt. Frank McMahon appears to put a very positive face on the U.S. Air Force. Resources today are greatly strained, and the picture of a vehicle being driven a vast amount of miles doesnt seem like the best use of taxpayer funds. If this is the norm for recruiting transportation, with more fuel efficient vehicles we may be able to reduce the $7,900 per enlistee cost. Master Sgt. Gregory Duncan

For Americans the celebration of Christmas is often considered one of the most important holidays of the year. Because of the diverse heritages and customs in addition to Kwanzaa a tradition begun in the later part of the twentieth century the American Christmas consists of traditions from not only the German but English Dutch and other Eastern European countries as well. Having religious significance Christmas also celebrates the child found in each individual and the desire for peace. Falling during the same month as the Jewish observance of Chanukah or Hanukkah (the Feast of Lights) and the African-American celebration of Kwanzaa the season of Christmas serves as a time of celebration feasting and a search for miracles. While Christmas generally is considered the celebration of Jesuss birth the early Puritans who settled the New England region refused to celebrate the occasion. Disagreeing with the early church fathers who established the holiday around a pagan celebration for easy remembrance by the poor the Puritans considered the observance secular in nature. Set during the winter solstice when days grow dark early Christmas coincides with the Roman holiday of Saturnalia; the date December 25 marks the celebration of Dies Natalis Invicti Solis or the birth day of the Unconquered Sun by the Romans. Puritans believed that these pagan customs which included no work feasting and gift giving were inappropriate for the celebration of the Lords birth. While the northern colonists did not observe the day the southern colonists celebrated in much the same style as their British counterparts–with banquets and family visits. Firecrackers or guns were used to welcome the Christ Child at midnight on Christmas. The residents of New York (New Amsterdam) celebrated the season in a similar fashion as their Dutch ancestors had with St. Nicholas Day (December 6) established to honor the patron saint of children. Gradually all observances became centered around the date December 25 with traditions becoming mixed and accepted between different ethnic backgrounds.
Vandross co-wrote and produced these new holiday songs, seven in all. He also offers three Christmas classics, the jazzy My Favorite Things, the soulful Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and O Come All Ye Faithful.
Then there is the stirring Go Tell It On The Mountain and Theres No Christmas Without You.

Taxation of Personal Injury Awards Recent legislation, as part of the Revenue Reconciliation Act of 1989, may have settled some of the other areas of disagreement. The legislation provides that the exclusion for personal injury awards does not apply to any punitive damages in connection with a case not involving physical injury or physical sickness.(1) Thus, it would appear that all damages, both compensatory and punitive received for physical injuries will be excluded from gross income. Only compensatory damages received for non-physical injuries will be excludable from gross income. Punitive damages received for non-physical injuries will be taxable. The new provision is effective for amounts received after July 10, 1989, in tax years ending after that date, unless a binding agreement, decree or award is in effect before then. Despite the clarifying legislation, areas for disagreement between taxpayers and the IRS still exist regarding the nature of non-physical injury awards involving libel or defamation of character. Lets examine the statutory provisions, administrative pronouncements and judicial interpretations affecting the taxation of awards for libel or defamation of character.
When you are involved in a car accident, there are a number of things you should know, but unfortunately, this information is not readily available. This article discusses what you need to know about personal injury claims long before you even think about hiring a lawyer. If you are injured in a car accident, and the accident was not your fault, you have the right to sue the owner and driver of the other vehicle for damages. These damages are paid to you by the other drivers insurance company. Tort law does not compensate the other driver for any injury he or she may have suffered as a result of causing the car accident. However, separate from tort law, all automobile insurance policies sold in Alberta provide for me payment of accident and disability benefits. Unlike tort law, both you and the driver of the other vehicle are entitled to receive the same accident and disability benefits.

Ambulance pact extended 5 years Shawnee County commissioners approved a five-year extension Thursday to a contract with the countys ambulance provider. Commissioners voted 3-0 to keep the countys subsidy at the current level of $518,957 for Greenwood Village, Colo.-based American Medical Response but to permit AMR to raise its user fees by 12 percent. AMRs base rate consequently will rise to $629 from $562 and the mileage charge will jump to $11.09 per mile from $9.90, according to figures provided by AMR attorney Tuck Duncan.
AmbulanceAn ambulance is a self-propelled vehicle specifically designed to transport critically sick or injured people to a medical facility. Most ambulances are motor vehicles, although helicopters, airplanes, and boats are also used. The interior of an ambulance has room for one or more patients plus several emergency medical personnel. It also contains a variety of supplies and equipment that are used to stabilize the patients condition while en route. The earliest ambulances were simple two-wheeled carts used to carry sick or wounded soldiers who were unable to walk by themselves. The word ambulance comes from the Latin word ambulare, meaning to walk or move about. The first ambulances specifically used to transport patients to a medical facility were developed in the late 1700s in France by Dominique-Jean Larrey, surgeon-in-chief in Napoleons army. Larrey noted that it took almost a full day for wounded soldiers to be carried to field hospitals, and that most of them died in that time from want of assistance. To render more immediate aid and provide faster transportation, he designed a horse-drawn carriage staffed by a medical officer and assistant with room for several patients on stretchers. The first military ambulance corps in the United States was organized in 1862 during the Civil War as part of the Union army. The first civilian ambulance service in the United States was organized three years later by the Cincinnati Commercial Hospital. By the turn of the century, most major hospitals had their own private ambulances. The first motorized ambulance went into operation in Chicago in 1899.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Life-long learning and CPD are pivotal to the development of all podiatrists. The SCP has been instrumental in working with the HPC to provide you with the tools to stay up-to-date:
In response to Matthew Youngs editorial in the last issue of The Diabetic Foot: When is a diabetes specialist podiatrist not a DSP?, it is most encouraging to note the level of support from diabetes consultants who are advocates for podiatry throughout the UK. The role of the podiatrist in the multiprofessional diabetes team is well recognised and the valuable contribution of the podiatrist to diabetic foot care has been measured and reported in the literature. With the publication of the International Consensus Document (IWGDF, 1999) and, more recently, the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network for Diabetes (SIGN, 2001) and the National Service Framework far Diabetes: Standards (DoH, 2001 a, b), the standards for diabetic foot care are now clear and universally available. To achieve these standards, the following must be available to deliver the care that patients deserve:
The University of Utah is limiting the practice of podiatrists in its medical facilities, severely restricting their ability to perform surgeries and ending their existing adjunct faculty appointments. University Health Care officials say the changes and transfer of oversight from the department of surgery to the department of orthopaedics are important for the U.s educational and treatment mission. In February, the podiatrists were notified that their specialty would be moved from surgery oversight to orthopaedics. Signed by the chairmen of surgery, Dr. Sean J. Mulvihill, and orthopaedics, Dr. Charles Saltzman, the letters said each podiatrist could apply for adjunct faculty appointments through orthopaedics, but their scope of practice would be limited to soft tissue, nail and skin surgery and non-surgical foot care.

The ABC network sitcom Home Improvement first aired on September 17 1991 and ran for eight seasons through May 1999. During only its second season the show was renewed for three additional seasons an unusual decision in the television industry. Based on the stand-up comedy routine of its star Tim Allen (born Timothy Allen Dick in 1953) Home Improvement initially reflected Allens love of power tools cars and Sears department stores as well as mirroring his own family situation. Allen portrayed Tim Taylor the host of cable TVs “Tool Time.” His wife Jill was portrayed by Patricia Richardson. More than just comedy though Home Improvement epitomized the concerns of the largest generation in history the baby boomers. The Taylors were a representation of the average American family of the 1990s and their struggles although treated with light-hearted humor reflected the struggles of the shows demographic. In the main three fundamental concerns of the boomer generation were examined on a weekly basis–relationships family and the search for spirituality.
Homeowners looking to refurbish their houses but unwilling to use expensive credit cards to finance it will soon be served by a new, locally based loan company specializing in home improvement loans. Jess Chinchillas, founder of the company, recently returned to the county after serving as vice president for The Money Store, a Sacramento-based home lender. The home improvement loan is secured by a lien on the subject property, he added. Since the average home improvement loan is smaller than other kinds of home equity loans, but has just as much paperwork, the points charged are usually proportionally higher, he added.

Dear Readers: Here are some helpful hints to keep soap scum and hard-water stains off your shower head and door. Drying shower doors after every shower is a great idea, but over time, nasty hard-water stains and soap scum still might appear. The best way to get rid of them? White household vinegar! — There is no need to take down the shower head when it has a buildup from hard water. Fill a large plastic bag with vinegar and lift the bag up so the shower head is submerged. Then use a rubber band to secure the bag in place. Leave it there for a few hours or overnight. For stubborn clogs, try using a straight pin to loosen the buildup. Vinegar is my favorite cleaner! It is so versatile and has a zillion uses. Need to clean the coffeepot, deodorize the dishcloth or make a kitchen drain smell fresh? Send for a copy of my six-page pamphlet by mailing $4 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (63 cents) envelope to: Heloise/Vinegar, P.O. CarpetThe first carpets of note were woven by nomads. The thick carpets were easy to transport and were placed over the sand floor of tent dwellings. Early looms were similarly easy to transport. Two forked branches were joined by a crosspiece holding the suspended warp, and a wooden bar was used to flatten binding weft threads, while the loose warp ends formed the carpets pile. The Pazyryk carpet has been documented as the earliest hand loom carpet, dating back from 500 B.C. and discovered in a tomb located in the Alti Mountains in Central Asia. From these early beginnings, carpet weaving rose to its highest art form in Turkey, Iran, India, and China. Using cotton, linen, or hemp as the foundation, and wool or silk as the luxurious pile, weavers would make a knot out of the pile thread, then form a row of knots that was tightly beaten down. The process was time-consuming: some of the finest handmade carpets have as many as 2,400 knots per square inch (372 knots per sq cm). The brilliant colors of these ancient carpets came from natural dyes such as madder, indigo, genista, woad, and ocher. Some weavers added alum to these dyes to fix the color, and a few wove gold and precious jewels into their carpets.

Peggy Williams of Enco was named Woman in Construction of the Year in the Little Rock division by the National Association of Women in Construction.
After the robust growth in 2006, construction activity posted even higher growth rates in 2007. The value of construction put in place surged by 18.5% over 2006. Activity in civil engineering increased by 24.7% as a result of the construction of transport infrastructure. The construction of buildings grew by 15.5%; within that, non-residential construction was up 20.2%, whereas activity in residential construction decreased by 0.9%. Based on detailed data on issued building permits, the vigorous construction of hotels appears to have continued last year, probably along with the construction of wholesale and retail trade buildings. In interpreting the figure on the value of residential construction put in place we should bear in mind that these figures exclude the activity of smaller firms (see the note under the table), where the construction of buildings is the main activity. Stronger growth was partly linked to favourable weather conditions, especially in the first half of the year. This is corroborated by the business trends regarding the limiting factors in construction. The share of firms that reported bad weather conditions as a limiting factor was much lower in the first half of 2007 than in the previous year. The weather was also more propitious than the year before in the third quarter, but it was less favourable in the fourth quarter, which affected growth in the latter part of the year. The growth in the number of employees increased further last year. In 2007 the number of people employed in the construction sector was 11.3% higher, on average, than in 2006. The number of workers by activity rose particularly in building completion; in the latter part of the year it also increased in general construction. In terms of employee status, higher growth rates were recorded in the number of sole proprietors and their employees.

The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2002;187(3), Part 2, focuses on how and why womens health and gender-based competencies should be woven into the fabric of undergraduate medical education. It discusses appropriate components of the health and medical curriculum, and combining health care competencies with educational objectives and models for teaching reproductive health.
Before reading this chapter, please see “How to Get the Most Out of this Book” on page 1. It will clarify questions you may have concerning data collection procedures, forecasting methodology, sources and references, and the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. For other topics related to this chapter, see chapters 44 (Drugs), and 45 (Medical and Dental Instruments and Supplies).
Editors note: This article is adapted from Menke and Bobbins Integrative Chiropractic, scheduled for release in 2007 by Elsevier Health Sciences. “The medicalization of early diagnosis not only hampers and discourages preventative health care, but it also trains the patient-to-be to function in the meantime as an acolyte to his doctor. He learns to depend on the physician in sickness and in health. He turns into a lifelong patient.” “Medicalizing” is forcing conditions into familiar diagnostic categories for medical management.1 Every complaint has an antidote, whether it needs one or not. ; Treating natural consequences of living as diseases that must be vanquished, leads to too much treatment and too much dependence on the authoritative “professional.” We tend to grant most, if not all of our decision-making authority to an expert in highly complex technologies. In the case of medicine, this often complicates the commonplace condition and prolongs selflimiting ones. Today, diseases and drugs are way oversold.

The first cars were open carts powered by steam engines. They bumped along at two miles per hour, slower than a person could walk. Cars hav come a long way since then. Do any of these cars look like yours? The Benz Velo had bicycle wheels and a small gasoline engine. Instead of stepping on gas or brake pedals, the driver pulled levers to change speed or stop. Can you find the little steering wheel with a handle?
> Cars: Caruso Concours dElegance took place Oct. 12 at The Americana at Brand. The event featured 35 cars valued at more than $85 million from elite collections. Theres no place like home, Dorothy said. Anywhere I hang my hat is home, goes the old Johnny Mercer standard. Both are true and both are different. Home is one particular place, not like any other, and home is a feeling that can be created many times in many places. But before the utopian future arrives when all design recognizes these realities, were here trying to make a home. MS is very likely to change a familys requirements–starting with the urgent need to save energy for the good stuff. At the same time, finances may be pinched and options limited. Still, the questions are nearly universal. Can your home be safer? Can cleaning it be easier? Do adaptations have to look medical or threaten to devalue property? Do they have to cost the earth? The National MS Society would like to be your ally as you work out your own answers to these questions. We have some helpful publications–in print and on the Web site. We also think there is much to be gained from sharing information with each other. And wed like to remind everyone that occupational therapists (OTs) are the specialists who know the most about practical changes at home or work to meet needs imposed by MS. Amana[R] package terminal air conditioners from Goodman Company, LP, provide residents with reliable, independently operated, efficient air-conditioning. The air conditioners have DigiSmart[TM] digital control boards, which provide individual incremental temperature control. Amana units are activated by one button, and the buttons are large and easy to read. Easy to install, Amana units are quiet and provide easy access to the filter, which can be fitted with an odor-absorbing filter. CIRCLE 63 ON READER SERVICE CARD
Window-mounted air conditioners cool, circulate, filter and dehumidify the air. They range in size from small units with a cooling capacity of 5,000 BTUs (enough to cool a small room) to as high as 14,000 BTUs for normal home voltage. It is crucial that retailers sell the consumer the right size air conditioner. An oversized unit will cool but leave a damp and clammy feeling because of high relative humidity. An undersize unit will not operate effectively on very hot days. An effective rule of thumb to determine the BTUs needed to cool a room is to multiply the square feet of the room by 25, adding 1,000 for every window and 400 for each occupant. Example: A room measures 12 x 15 with two windows and two occupants. The formula works out to 180 sq. ft. x 25 = 4,500 + 2,000 for the windows + 800 for the occupants = 7,300, or a 7,000-8,000 BTU air conditioner.
The Wallmaster line of packaged terminal air conditioners is a cost-effective heating and cooling system. The units feature mechanical thermostat limiters and built-in dampers that give operators more ways to control costs. They fit into standard 16-inch-by-42-inch sleeves. Top-mounted return-air filters are readily accessible.

The Freeman family created the Freeman Cosmetics Corp., which was sold to the Dial Corp. in 1998. Three years later, the Freeman family created a chain of beauty supply stores and salons, called Pure Beauty, with 75 salons nationwide. Private equity fund Heritage Partners purchased 90 percent of the salons, while the Freeman family retained a 10 percent interest in Pure Beauty. In September 2003, the family bought back the name and intellectual properties of Freeman in bankruptcy court.
|Several suppliers have introduced lines that are similar to the salon brands but priced for the mass market. CDR Roundup - professional hair care has long represented a sizable and highly profitable niche in chain drug hair care sales. Salon-type products, generally supplied by diverters, can help drug chains raise margins by offsetting sharply priced commodity brands in such areas as shampoos and conditioners. While such names as Redken Laboratories Inc., Sebastian and KMS Laboratories may be becoming rare on chain drug shelves, a whole new class of salon-type products is springing up to fill the gap.

Edward R. Murrow once remarked that #x93;[t]he obscure we see eventually. The completely apparent takes a little longer.#x94; Such is the case with a Maryland statute, codified in the Real Property Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland (#x93;RP Article#x94;), that received no attention by Maryland appellate courts in two recent cases where it could have played a decisive role. This situation has left Maryland real property practitioners at a loss to understand how best to draft real estate documents in light of these cases. Obviously, a bit of explanation is in order. This is a curious and perplexing story about a Maryland statute that has been treated by the Maryland appellate courts as though it did not exist. It has been on the books for well over three decades, but from all appearances it has been cited just a single time (and then only in a footnote) by Marylands appellate courts. Unlike other statutes that have been relegated to the dustbin of obscurity, it is a mistake to treat this statute as obscure or obsolete. This statute, rather, suffers from the failure of the bar and the courts to understand its significance and importance in real estate transactions. The statute in question is Section 1-103 of the RP Article. This 53-word statute, which originally was codified as Section 1-104 of former Article 21, provides in full as follows:Unless otherwise expressly provided, any obligation imposed on or right granted to any person automatically is binding on or inures to the benefit of his assigns, successors, heirs, legatees, and personal representatives. However, this section is not to be construed to create or confer any rights of assignment where none would exist otherwise. According to the annotations to Section 1-103, this statute has been cited just a single time, in 2004, by the Court of Appeals, where it was referenced in a footnote. Jurgensen v. New Phoenix Atlantic Condo. Council of Unit Owners, 380 Md. 106, 117 n. 11 (2004). To understand the context of this reference to the statute in footnote 11 in Jurgensen, it is necessary to review an earlier decision by the Court of Appeals that seemingly ignored this statute in its entirety.

Some compare todays coastal housing market, where prices increased the most, to the investment craze that led to the technology stock crash a few years ago. Home prices in some regions have more than doubled in the past five years, leading to concerns that the speculative bubble might burst. There have also been record levels of conversion of apartments into condominiums in many areas of the country as demand for homeownership has also led to increased demand for condominiums. Investors can earn a greater profit by selling apartments as condos rather than renting apartments. In markets like Miami, where the condo market has been particularly hot, some units have even changed hands the same day as speculators have been buying many of the condos. The bad news for homeowners in Indiana is that they have not seen their home values rise like many other areas of the country. The Indianapolis areas home prices grew at nearly the slowest pace of the top fifty markets, or 19 percent during the past five years. Homeowners in the Boston and San Diego areas saw their homes appreciate more than 75 percent during the same period. The good news is what has not gone up will probably not go down. That is, home prices in Indiana are not likely to fall with a possible drop in prices in those areas of the country that may be experiencing a bubble. So there is less risk associated with purchasing a home in Indiana compared to many other areas of the country. This also makes homes in Indiana relatively affordable compared to many other areas.

Hair loss refers to the partial or total loss of hair from part of the body where normally it grows.
Poor diet Nutrients are required for hair to grow properly. These include protein, glucose, vitamins and iron, sodium and sulphur. Insufficient iron is a common cause of hair loss. Antibiotics, when taken over a long period, have been shown to cause hair loss, as have some thyroid medications and anti-coagulants. Too much vitamin A or vitamin E can cause hair to fall out.
The authors report temporal hair loss in patients after rhytidectomy. The objective was to illustrate the microscopic findings seen in the affected area of hair loss after rhytidectomy. The study presents a two punch biopsy on the areas affected and they were sent for histopathological evaluation. Histopathologic diagnosis was of telogen effluvium, in the general population 8.4% of rhytidectomy patients present with hair loss. This is a case report of a telogen effluvium nine weeks after rhytidectomy, with hair loss for the last six weeks. The causes of this type of telogen effluvium have not been well delucidated but it is believed that possible change in blood supply to the hair follicle, due to trauma, may play a role as well as stress. This patient did report swelling in the areas affected and it is possible that increase pressure played a role. All in all, the patients hair did re-grow one-year after surgery. We have included this interesting article to demonstrate that cosmetic surgeries and possibly cosmetic procedures may provide a due stress to the system that in some case may cause temporary hair loss. It is highly unlikely that in 1881 when James A. Bonsack invented a cigarette-making machine that he or anybody else could have predicted the meacute;lange of future symbolism contained in each conveniently packaged stick of tobacco. The cigarette has come to stand for more than just the unhealthy habit of millions in American popular culture. It represents politics money image sex and freedom. The tobacco plant held residence in the New World long before Columbus even set sail. American Indians offered Columbus dried tobacco leaves as a gift and it is rumored he threw them away because of the fowl smell.
